Bait and switch

This filter is not by Briggs & Stratton as advertised. It is an aftermarket knockoff from Rotary Corporation; the quality is not Briggs & Stratton quality. I think it will work and I will use it because I need a filter now, but I will not order from this vendor again. Also, I will not order this type of product from Amazon, as this has happened to me before. Save on shipping costs and buy local!

Product Description

Comes standard with the Alen T100 and T300 Air Purifiers (Visit alencorp.com for details), the Alen HEPA-Fresh Filter combines three layers of filter technology to purify and freshen the air in your home. Polluted air first passes through Alen's washable Pre-Filter to capture large particles, extending the life of the filter. In the second layer, air moves through a unique, electrostatically charged HEPA style material that attracts and captures dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores and other airborne pollutants. In the final layer, clean air passes through a layer of Alen's Activated Carbon, reducing light odors and chemicals commonly found in the air from cleaning products, smoke, cooking, pets and various other household materials. Note: The HEPA-Fresh (TF30) Replacement Filter includes two (2) filters. The Alen T300 Air Purifier requires both filters. The Alen T100 Air Purifier requires only one. Instructions for Use: Over time, the HEPA-Fresh Filter becomes overloaded with particles, decreasing its filtration performance. We recommend regular filter replacements, at least every 6 months with normal use. Rinse or lightly vacuum the removable black Alen Pre-Filter as soon as it develops a layer of visible particles. Allow it to completely dry before replacing. Washing or vacuuming the white HEPA style material will damage the fibers and is not recommended.

This was exactly what I needed for my Alen t100 purifier. I am very happy with the purifier in general. It was a bonus that I could order this filter through amazon and get two for the price of one!! I also did not have to pay shipping cost. This was a much better deal then going through Alen directly.

Ozone based air purification technology without the drawbacks

BACKGROUNDI suffer from severe mold allergies and have dedicated a substantial amount of time and money to a several year trial and error process with quite a few air filtration and purification machines. Through the course of this, I have purchased and used extensively both the Air Oasis AO3000, EcoQuest's Vollara Fresh Air and their smaller Ecobox, IQ Air Healthpro Plus, RabbitAir BioGS, and the Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort. Now the latter 3 machines are more traditional HEPA based air filtration machines that filter impurities out of the air and neutralize oders with carbon fibers. The first two machines are more like purification/neutralization machines that use ozone technology - they lack actual filtration capabilities. If you go to the bottom of this review, I make some recommendations on how to couple these two technologies (HEPA filtration and ozone purification) together to get a good result. Since I feel like I'm writing an infomercial right now, I'd like to take a moment and stress that I am only basing my findings on personal experience and the results I experiences. No scientific lab results and no specific quantifiable metrics were involved. However, I can assure you this review is real and if you check out my Amazon profile, you will see I am a serious reviewer and I'm a hard to please customer. I give a lot more negative reviews than positive ones and I give 5 stars very rarely.EXPERIENCE WITH ECOQUEST VOLLARA FRESH AIRMy first ozone technology experiment was with the EcoQuest Vollara Fresh Air and also their smaller Ecobox unit. The Fresh Air unit is powerful and definately puts out a strong, sanitizing ozone effect wherever you place it. It neutralized mold and my allergies got much better within a day of using the unit. The problem is the ozone that is created really started to irritate my lungs and resulted in breathing problems. When I had friends visit, they loved it as first as well but also experienced similar breathing problems after running it all night. So I started to use the Fresh Air unit as more of a spot treatment when I knew I would be away for a few days or even overnight in an empty room with the door shut. For this purpose, it works great.EXPERIENCE WITH AIR OASIS AO3000But I didn't want to give up on the idea of using ozone to deal with mold in the air so I discovered Air Oasis which uses ozone but treats in with an additional process to reduce the final ozone output to a level that is within USDA/FDA guidelines. After the first night of using the AO3000, I woke up feeling great and breathing fine. In fact, I have been using it nonstop for over a week and I haven't had any problems. With this machine, you don't get the same strong fresh ozone smell that the Fresh Air unit creates. The AO3000 creates more of a neutral smell that makes the area smell almost like nothing, completely oderless. My mold allergies are much better and I can breathe fine with this unit. I would recommend not keeping it too close to you because I noticed that when I kept it right next to me at my desk, it made me a little lightheaded. So I placed it a bit further away and higher up and it worked great.NEGATIVES OF AIR OASIS AO3000As for negatives, I don't like the shape because it's easy to tip over. I would prefer they make this thing is more of a box form that you can set anywhere and not where about it getting knocked over, especially on a countertop. Also there is the high price. But if you've come this far to be looking at ozone utilizing air cleaning machines, then you've probably already come to the realization that all these machines are expensive.FINAL RECOMMENDATIONBecause these types of machines don't actually have air filtration/debris removal capabilities, they are limited in how much actual air purification they can do. This is why it's probably best to couple it with a machine with a proper Hepa filter. On the low end, you can go with a decently reviewed Honeywell unit or on the high end, you have IQ Air which is like the Ferrari of air cleaners. Now you might be thinking "Why don't I just buy an IQ Air machine which can serve as a stand alone air cleaner since they claim they filter pretty much everything including mold spores?". Well, that's exactly what I did and tried for a year and honestly, even the IQ Air doesn't do the trick when it comes to mold. Only after using the EcoQuest Fresh Air and the Air Oasis AO3000 did I notice substantial improvements in my mold allergies.

Don't waste your money.

I ordered a germ filter that should last a year according to specs. It's looked very beat up after a couple of months of use. I keep vacuuming it in hopes of extending the life. I wouldn't invest in it again or the Holmes purifier.We have a Hamilton Beach with permanent filter Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner.Half the size...And price with filters, that blows this away! In this case, Smaller is Better!

Bought this air purifier at Bed Bath and Beyond for $100 and its done a nice job in the month we've had it. Catches alot of dust and cat-hair. Its also nice at just circulating air constantly. Its quiet on low and pretty loud on high but if you use it often, it just turns into a nice background white-noise after a few days. The filters need to be replaced but if they last 18 months like advertised then the investment is worth it.EDIT:The unit is still going strong almost two years later. We don't use it constantly so we haven't replaced the filter yet since we temporarily switched in a new filter and noticed no reduction in air flow. No dust on the interior fan either.I will note that you must vacuum the filter periodically.

Whisper quiet on low and removes odors too

I bought this mainly because I have two rabbits living in my room, and I started noticing a stale musty smell when I came home from work. I don't have allergies so I can't say how much effective this air purifier is at removing allergens, but I will say that I have noticed the smell much less, and it's pretty much completely silent on low. I keep it on 24/7, so the filter will probably age quicker, but so far so good. It's a substantial size, about the footprint of a computer tower so I tucked it in on a bottom shelf that is well ventilated. I really didn't believe in air purifiers before but I think this product may have changed my mind!

AMAZING yet a little loud

Sleek look and works very well with relieving allergy and asthma problems! medium and high levels can be pretty loud, but it could be louder. Becomes background noise after a while just like heaters and AC do. I was having allergy and asthma problems constantly and after only having it out for a few minutes my wheezing went away! Definitely worth the purchase! Plus the filters can be vacuum cleaned for several months before having to replace it!

Great quiet air purifier

Some of the online specs are misleading. The Blueair 403 unit (at least the one I received) actually has 4 speeds, just like the Blueair 402! Even the manufacturer's own website as of this review lists it as having only 3 speeds. The only difference between the 402 and 403 is that the 403 comes with a small electronic timer that is magnetic (you can put it on your refrigerator or on the Blueair unit itself) which shows you when 6 months are up and it's time to replace the filter. This is handy, but not really needed. So, if you can still find a 402 (now discontinued) for a good price, I'd recommend you grab it!This is a great unit but it is a bit larger than I expected. If you have a small bedroom or office, it may look a bit imposing. It runs very quiet at the two lowest settings and even at the third setting, I found the sound soothing enough to sleep with. In fact, the first night I had it, I put it on the 3 speed setting and found the sound quiet nice and relaxing.It works very well and is more efficient and quieter than smaller units. The design is also more proven; I compared it with a smaller unit (the 250E) and the 403 works a lot better for a number of reasons (better filter, it pre-charges the particles so that they stick to the filter, and has a larger, thicker filter). The 403 also has a deeper, more soothing and relaxing sound than the smaller unit. Because of the design, you can put things like books on top of it if you want to since it takes in and outputs air from the sides. You can also place it against a wall, something you cannot really do with the smaller 250E unit as it has the filter on the back and outputs air out the top. Also, larger units like the 500 series output air out the top (and sides) so you would not be able to put something on top of those either. I'm not saying I would use my Blueair 403 as a bookshelf or anything, just that it can be convenient to place a magazine or book or two on the top surface at times.I will now buy a second 403 unit for my living room because I am so impressed. Having two or more of the same series in different rooms throughout the house seems a benefit as you only have one type of filter to buy for them all. However, if your living room is on the large side, you may need a larger unit (such as the 500 series so check your square footage). Note that the 500 series is *much* louder though.All in all, this is a great unit as it performs very well is *very* quiet and well made. I feel I sleep much better with this unit on and also have much less allergy symptoms including less red and itchy eyes. Even if you don't suffer from allergies, you can still benefit from having nice fresh air all the time. My guess is that you will sleep better and feel more rested when you wake up. As for myself, the Blueair has practically been a lifesaver-I feel a lot more healthy and my allergy symptoms are virtually gone!

Nice purifier, but the warranty is a scam!

I bought this purifier based on it's build quality and purification capabilities, and also because of the 10 year warranty stated on the amazon page. The unit is powerful and cleans the air in my bedroom very well - within two days, it has completely relieved my sinus problems during this heavy pollen season. It also seems solidly built and it is very silent on the lowest setting (I cannot hear it over the birds chirping outside my closed window).I would rate this purifier five stars, if the warranty was not a complete scam: it states on the amazon website that there is a 10-year warranty. However, the warranty information that comes with the purifier states that there is only a one-year limited warranty, and that that warranty is only valid if you have proof that you replaced the filter after 6 months. So, if you were not to replace your filter, the warranty would be valid for only 6 months.You CAN get a 5 year warranty, and even a lifetime warranty, if you become a member of Blueair's filter subscription program, in which they send you a new filter every 6 months for $59 including shipping. You can do that by sending back their warranty card or by signing up online. I think that this program may make sense for some people, but I want to run this purifier for only about 6 months each year, as I have no sinus problems in the fall/winter, so I will use one filter every year and not one every six months.You have to dig deep into their warranty policy (also on their web page) to find out that you *MAY* qualify for an extended warranty if you purchase your filters elsewhere and keep the receipts. That wording sounds like the company will decide, though, whether you actually *DO* qualify or not if you need a repair under warranty and have purchased your filters independently.I find it ridiculous to make the warranty de facto dependent on whether or not you join their subscription program and it is deceiving to state a 10-year warranty on the amazon site when no such warranty exists and when any warranty that extends beyond six months is dependent on the purchase of somewhat costly replacement filters directly from Blueair. While I like this machine, I don't like to be deceived or suckered into a "free" 5-year warranty that actually costs you quite a bit extra if you do not run this machine full time through the year.If this company plays dirty little tricks like that upon purchase, I don't even want to know how great their customer service is when you really have a problem down the line. No blue air for me - this baby is going back.Update September 2012: I ended up keeping this unit, because the only other one that I liked was not available online. I will not change the filters every six months, and, thus, my warranty will expire at the six month date. I posted some pictures of the warranty terms and of the "FREE" 5-year warranty card that came with the unit, just so folks can make an informed decision.

Solid construction, energy efficient, and truly quiet

When my allergist advised I put an air purifier in the bedroom, I wondered how I could find something quiet enough to fall asleep with. He recommended the Honeywells for their air quality, but reviews indicated these were pretty loud.So, I first purchased the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier (AP51030K) based on Consumer Reports and Amazon reviews. From the moment I turned it on, I knew there was no way could I fall asleep with that in the room. Even on the lowest setting, it is quite loud: I could hear it just fine from 30 feet away in another room, through two open doors. In addition, it uses a lot of electricity - about 60 watts on the lowest setting. Finally, construction is a bit cheap: plastic and styrofoam.Further research pointed to the Blueair series as quiet and energy efficient. Of these, the Blueair 403 is ranked the quietest. I ordered it and am very happy. It is extremely quiet on its lowest setting - just barely audible from 8 feet away in bed - and uses only 20 watts on the lowest setting. It's solidly constructed of metal, and well worth the higher price vs. the Whirlpool.Regarding the Blueair 503, which I haven't tried: The 503 seems to be a better deal (just a little more expensive, rated for 50% more space, and - surprisingly - cheaper filter replacements). But the 403 is rated much quieter (27db vs 35db on lowest setting). I am considering getting the 503 for the living areas, which are larger and where noise is less of an issue.Bottom Line: I love the Blueair 403 in my bedroom. The unit is quite large (11d x 20w x 23h), but well worth the space and price - given its silence, energy efficiency and stylish construction.
