Small, But Works For Me

I have been using this table top air cleaner in my office next to my computer...where I smoke. I only smoke in my office and have tried a few different air cleaners and honestly this has worked the best for this purpose. Kind of an expensive smokeless ashtray. My office is pretty small, just 10x10 and I keep the unit on my desk, but it does work. The room smells much better and I notice much less dust too. It's pricey for the size, this would never work in a larger room, but I didn't expect it to. Some people have commented on the noise, but I didn't find it that loud and after a few minutes I don't even hear it. I usually use it on the low setting, sometimes medium and it isn't all the different than having a small fan going. Again, it's pricey at $69.99 for what I am using it for, I think the price point should be closer to $50 personally and if it was I would have bumped my rating to 4 stars as long as you understand it's size limitations. I am pleased with how it works for me though and will continue using it.

Does make a difference.

I've run this air cleaner several times now. It does make a difference in the air in a room--even a room I don't consider to be particularly small. When I first smelled a room where it had been working, the room did smell less of things it had smelled like before. What did it smell like instead, I wondered? A hospital? A hotel? A new car? Finally, I decided that it smelled like plastic.After a few uses, the smell isn't quite so plasticky, but it still seems unnatural, somehow. I guess the amount you want to use a unit like this must depend somewhat on how badly you want to get something (like mold spores, maybe) out of your air.The air cleaner also may make air slightly cooler--it feels a bit like a cooling fan when you put your hand by the exhaust.The low and medium settings are fairly quiet; the high setting is noisier, but not shockingly so. The amount the sound disturbs you is probably proportional to, say, how much an air conditioner or dishwasher or something's noise bothers you when it runs.

We used this over the last few weeks, and it has come in very handy if making foods with potent smells and to reduce or remove the smell of cigarette smoke our neighbors emit. It currently is plugged in near the hallway, so that the smells are absorbed, and, from what we can tell 'neutralized', as we smell them much less. Sometimes you don't necessarily want the whole house smelling like what you are cooking, and are concerned about dust, hair and other allergens (I am a former allergy shot recipient). This little machine, which is about the size of 1.5 hardback books does it's job well. The only criticism I have, is that there is a slight 'rattle' when it's on. This can be a bit distracting if you're sitting right next to it, but it seems to have lessened as we've used the air cleaner a few times. It's still there a little bit, despite tapping or shifting it, but it's no longer a noticable sound.
