Austin Air filters address the complete spectrum of air cleaning, removing sub-micron particles, noxious gases and chemicals. Austin AirÕs 360-degree intake system draws air into all sides of the HealthMate+, passing it through a 4-stage filter. The result, more clean air delivered faster and more efficiently than any other air cleaner on the market. The 4-stage filtration systems works like this: STAGE 1 - Large Particle Pre-filter - Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander), STAGE 2 - Medium Particle Pre-filter - Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. molds, spores and pollen), STAGE 3 - 15 lbs. of Activated Carbon/Zeolite Blend - Removes chemicals, gases and odors (e.g. sulfuric acid and ammonia), STAGE 4 - 60 ft. of True Medical Grade HEPA - Removes harmful micro-organisms - (e.g. bacteria and viruses) . Should be a 10 star

I am very sensitive to chemicals. I give the HealthMate Plus credit for saving my life. With it in my home I can handle odors and chemicals from other apartments and the outside.Mine has been thru neighbors painting, and remodeling. I did have a break down with it and the warranty was honored. They even put an emergency tag on the repair so it was repaired faster.The newer ones are so much more quieter than the old ones. When I got mine back from the factory I was constantly putting my hand on it to see if it was running. It was just so quiet.This is one of the first items that I recommend for a chemically sensitive person to buy.When the box arrived all I had to do was lift the box off and plug it in. It was so well packed I was impressed.

Nice Unit

The unit works well but has some design flaws that could be added such as: a variable speed control to adjust the speed (sound) beyond just the three choices, the outlet could be adjustable so you could direct the flow of the air wiout moving the unit, the strength of the casing could be stronger so that if somene accidentially sits on it that would not be a problem (got kids?), and the manufacturing company could bother to answer their emails and cold write you back (which they don't) with a confirmation so that you *know* they have received your warranty registration online. I would buy the unit again and wanted another unit, but since the company did not answer back my emails when I had questions about an other use for an additional one I did not bother to buy the second one. So far I don't feel the manufacturer cares much about their customers and hope there will be no problems when I have to deal with them in the future.

The Austin Air Healthmate Plus employs a certified HEPA filter which can remove 99.97 percent of particles larger than 0.3 microns. Since mold spores are larger than 0.3 microns, the Austin Air Healthmate filters can remove almost all mold spores inside rooms. The Austin Air Healthmate Plus contains nearly 15 pounds of activated carbon, which can remove aflatoxin, trichothecene and ochratoxin mold toxin gases, zeolites which can adsorb aflatoxins and hydrogen sulfide and Potassium Iodide which helps eliminate objectionable odors, such as formaldehyde.I recommend a 30 day trial of the Austin Air Healthmate Plus for anyone who suspects indoor mold toxins are adversely affecting them. It is rated to provide two air exchanges per hour in 1500 square feet of average height rooms. I think the Austin Air Heathmate Plus would be very helpful for many mold toxic patients, since it could help create a "clean room," especially in patient bedrooms or offices, where they presumably spend about eight hours daily.Many employees working in mold contaminated offices or schools are afraid to leave their toxic workplaces during this high unemployment job market. The Austin Air Healthmate Plus could help reduce the toxicity of their workplace, while they attempt to persuade their employers to correct the indoor mold contamination.Since zeolites can adsorb hydrogen sulfide gas, I believe the Austin Air Healthmate Plus might help protect homeowners from hydrogen sulfide outgassed from Chinese drywall, while the Chinese drywall is removed or sealed.If you are chemically sensitive, this may be the best air purifier for you, since it does not add anything to the air. It is housed in a sturdy low maintainence metal housing which does not outgas any plastic residues.The Austin Air Healthmate Plus can remove many odors which ozone shock treatments have failed to remove. It is helping remove new carpet pad odor presently and I also used it to scrub toluene paint solvent odors. I think it would be very useful in auto body paint shops, in addition to exhaust fans. Actually, I would be thrilled if Ace Hardware would deploy them at the front of their stores, by the insecticides, to remove fumes - seems like you always need to hold your breath while you walk past the pesticides at the front of every Ace Hardware store.Research published by Mayo Clinic revealed 93 percent of chronic sinusitis is caused by mold.
