4Sound Demo and Comparison With Winix 5500 and Honeywell 50250
By C. Hargrave
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2N4M6NMY8MIYF Here is a little comparison review of the Winix p150. Compared to winix 5500 and Honeywell 50250.The p150 is smaller than 5500 and not as well built but it is also a hundred bucks less. Nice and quiet.

4Works OK as an air filter, but constuction isn't very good, and manual isn't accurate
By R. McAdams
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R16O6BHVLJERGJ For those of you who don't want to watch the video, here are the pros and cons from the video ;)PROS:-works just fine as an air filter-has an automatic air quality sensor which will (presumably) sample the air, and adjust the filter-fan speed accordingly in "auto" mode, I did not test that aspect of the unit that extensively. I DID try the unit out in several rooms, and in one of them, the auto mode DID change from saying the air was "good" (green) to "slightly good" (green + orange), but after it worked for a bit, it changed back to "good" (green).-includes their "plasma wave" technology, which is basically a way to deconstruct the air molecules, and reform them, to attempt to remove odors (more on this in the cons)-quiet mode is nice and quiet-"turbo" mode is loud enough to use for anyone's white noise demands-has a light sensor, and will dim (slightly) the indicator LEDs when the lights are lowCONS:-the light sensor doesn't dim the LEDs NEARLY as much as I would prefer for a dark room sleeping situation-the internal filter setup falls out of place when you lift the unit by the handle, I demonstrate this in the video. I have checked with the manual to make sure I assembled everything properly internally, and according to the manual, I have. So, that is a pretty big OOPS for their engineers to have missed.-the "plasma wave" mode is supposed to be stoppable, according to the manual by pressing the "auto" button for 3 seconds, but I demonstrate in the video that those instructions don't work.-the "plasma wave" mode makes me nervous. The manual claims that this is "different" than the "ion" modes prior air cleaners/freshener models used in the past, which output ozone as a byproduct. Their data sheet claims they worked with Philadelphia University on the technology, and on making it safe for home -- that may very well be true, but I haven't fact checked it, nor have I seen their data or their work peer reviewed in any scientific journals. They CLAIM that their "plasma wave" technology is safer than the previous generation's "ion" technology, and only has a byproduct of "water molecules" and "OH -- which is a Hydroxl Radical Molecule, which recombines with other molecules in their "plasma wave" technology to make Hydrogen, Water, and Carbon Dioxide molecules" --- whether their claims are ACCURATE or not -- WHO KNOWS?! This type of messing around with molecules has already proven unsafe in previous types of units that used "ionization" technologies to do more or less the same thing, and ended up having a byproduct of ozone pollution. Science frequently gets caught up in the idea of "can we?" and forgets to ask the question of "should we?" Misuse of science is all too common in our history (hydrogen used in blimps is one such example), and misunderstanding of the consequences of science also are all too common (doctor's used to prescribe smoking cigarettes, and heroin as "relaxants"). So, since I cannot seem to turn the mode off with this unit, that will end up being a deal breaker for me. We don't have any smokers in my house, nor strong odors that need to be cleaned, and the "plasma wave" technology makes me nervous. Once I have seen it safely working in the wild for 10+ years, I will believe their claims, but until then -- no thanks =PINFO:-this isn't a "pro" or "con", but just some extra information I forgot to mention on the video: the air comes out of the top vent, at a 45 degree angle blowing towards the front of the unit. Which means, if you have it on the ground facing your bed, and your bed frame isn't that tall, you could very easily have the air blowing more or less right on you. This is the first air filter I have ever owned that blows the air in that direction. If you think about the way air circulates, that is actually a smart idea. So, this is just an FYI ;)I rated the unit 4 stars on the strength of the air filtering alone, combined with the automatic air quality sensing mode (which really is cool). I only dinged them 1 star for the items listed in the CONS list, however if those items bother you more than they did me, then adjust my star rating accordingly.4 stars.

5Perfect For Clean Fresh Air - Gets Pet Hairs!
By Martin A Hogan
I've used many various air purifiers over the years, mostly due to my cat's dander and occasional odors (like burning something in the kitchen). Most have a foam filter to trap the big stuff and then a HEPA style filter to trap the allergens. If you are going to buy one, make it a good buy that you won't regret. Winix is one of the best air purifier companies. This Winix True HEPA Filter is an amazing machine. I also own a Winix WAC9500 Ultimate Pet True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave Technology, but it is far more expensive (almost one hundred and twenty dollars more). This machine is for a room about 10' by 15', but could easily do well in a larger room. Compare prices with room size on other models of air purifiers. The Winix cleans through three stages instead of the usual two. Air is also pulled in from two opposing sides with 1" gaps instead of one side and shoots it straight up into the room. Most pull from the front which makes a larger intake, but a less focused and powerful one. The air first travels through the "washable" Odor Absorbing Carbon Pre-Filter. This is the one that captures pet hair (really), odors, smoke, and dust. The second stage is the HEPA filter which captures over 99% of airborne particles like pet dander, dust, pollen, mold spores, and other microbes.Stage three is called the Advanced PlasmaWave which is unique. It basically breaks apart all of these pollutants at a molecular level and without producing harmful ozone. Ozone is very bad for the lungs and you should never have one in your vehicle. It's just bad health. The FresHome filter actually SUCKS CAT HAIR onto the first "washable" carbon Pre-filter! This is what I have always been looking for.The top surface contains all the electronic information. The Air Quality Sensor shows the quality of the air in your room with ten tiny little LEDs.When Auto Mode is pressed, it automatically adjusts the air cleaner settings, so you don't underuse or overuse the machine. There are (4) four speeds according to your needs. It ranges from Quiet Mode to Turbo Mode. But I found event the Turbo Mode to be quiet. It also can act like a very soft `white noise' if in your bedroom. The Light Sensor is cool, in that it automatically lowers the fan speed dims the light sensors for night time. When the filter (HEPA) is maxed out, a sensor goes on, but I have to tell you that with my other Winix, it took almost 18 months before I had to replace it. These are not terribly expensive and run about sixty dollars or more.Considering I sneeze violently at least once a day, I have not had many sneeze attacks since my old Winix was running. This unit is a keeper. (You can even cheat a little when the True HEPA Filter needs to be cleaned. I use my vacuum adapter). Also, there is no useless remote control. Why pay for something that you'll never use?
