Good product

I bought this at Costco awhile back, and it works a lot better than the 201. The lights are quite bright and are somewhat of a pain at night, but it does a great job at purifying the air of dust and allergens. It does not do a great job at eliminating smoke smells, but given that it's being used in conjuction with an older 201 that needs a filter and lamp replacement, I very much doubt the unit is to blame so much as where I've placed them and the house I'm using it in (both could be very much improved, my room is right next to a bathroom used for smoking, so I'm going to smell it no matter how many filters I have running in the room).I gave it 5 stars because I have had this for awhile and have not really noticed a deterioration in its ability to clean the air, and the filter is still like new after several months. I have no complaints other than the whole 1-year lamp replacement thing. I'm not looking forward to replacing the lamp on this unit. But really, you can't expect that stuff to last forever.

Filter is huge and last a long time between cleanings

I had picked this one up at my local club warehouse since they no longer had carried the Therapure TPP240 which I've owned 4x since 2010, 2011, 2012 of those and one of them the UV light had stopped working. Replace UV Light didn't work since the UV light controller in the TTP240 doesn't work. So I had replaced the entire unit with 440 in 2011 which to me is an upgrade. With 440 pushing out more air flow and is smaller to the 240. The 440 does have handle to carry it around, the filter is wider and I haven't even change it yet. Been about 7 months now and it's on 24/7 on high fan. I also like the fact that it doesn't light up the entire room like the 240 did. I had to find something to cover the blue amber LED lights. When you turned on UV, ION, FAN and Timer or either one the it's bright!The 440 you can go into night mode but I still have to cover the top to me it still a bit bright, but not as bad as the 240 was. But the 440 has a huge UV light status which can be turned off. The controls are front face instead on top like the 240 was. 440 blows more air in and out and does a good job doing so. I do like this design better although the 240 design was very tall tower but had fit into tight places.Neither one doesn't have any type of wireless remote. These are manual system with digital controls not analog. HEPA filters do need to be cleaned when the LED lamp turns on. Both the 240 and 440 share the same type of warning. You should turn off the unit and take off the rear cover. The filter will come out. Take a vacuum hose and clean out the filter. Or use a dry vac and do it. Do not wash the filter with any water. I do recommend you clean off any dust on the front and rear of the unit.UV light is low power and that's why I don't give this 5 out 5 stars. When there is odor you'll still smell it. When these units are brand spanking new you don't smell the odors as much. UV light has to be replace yearly not cheap. You must call up the company to get them. Must handle with care too.HEPA Filter this can last if you take good care of it. If you don't it has to be replace. I have never replace any of the 4x 240 and 440 is just not even a year old yet.CR rated the 250 about 48% it came in good on high settings and only fair on low settings to remove the pollution like dust odor, pet damper an etc. Fan noise on low came in very good.As for noise CR reports it's finding above to me the fan on both 240 and 440 is about the same noise it's high but not that bad. Low is very quiet.I operate 240 and 440 at the highest settings 24/7 my electric bill is very low these units are energy star. The 2010 240 models are started to give me issues though. I am now down to 2x out of the 4x. I'll replace another one with 440 when they go on sale again.
