Creates a nice breeze, but can't sleep with it

I've been spoiled by my Rabbit Air MinusA2 air cleaner which can automatically switch to ultra quiet mode when it detects the lights turning off in the room. Even though this Honeywell HFD320 has a manual Sleep/Quiet setting, it is still too noisy to have it anywhere near the bed. Also the blue LED that lights up the buttons is too bright for the room at night (I like to sleep in darkness, not in the laser afterglow of power charger lights and air cleaner button lights). Otherwise, this air cleaner looks nice in the room. Everything about it looks sleek and modern. The oscillate feature is actually quite useful. When I set it to oscillate, I love the gentle breeze that it creates.If you're looking for an air cleaner that can go right near the bed and stay dark & quiet, check out the Rabbit Air MinusA2.This Honeywell HFD320 is excellent if you like an air cleaner that can squeeze into the corner of a room and create a gentle fresh breeze.

It has a very strong plastic smell for the first couple of days so that is the reason for the loss of 1 star. I love the fact that it has a washable filter instead of having to buy a new one all the time I had bought the airgenius4 and it is very similar but this one has nicer touch controls and the controls are lit with a blue light so you could change the settings in the dark too. It is sleek and modern and can fit into almost any room. I am going to use this one in our bedroom so cut down on the dust and pet odor. The dog has her own bed in our room. It seems that there is a reduction in some of the dust in my computer room while using this so I think it really is helping to filter the air. The hepa filter types I have used before never seemed to reduce the dust as well as this one. The fan is quiet, on low you can't hear it well at all, even on high it isn't too bad. I always liked some white noise to sleep so this will be perfect. I didn't want to put it in my bedroom until the awful scent was gone. That is the only thing i can find so far that I don't like, there really should not be a bad plastic smell like this, maybe it is cheap plastics?

Moderate quality unit

First of all, this air cleaner has a very modern look and feel. It is very nice and fits into any room of my house just fine.I bought two air cleaners at the same time to get a feel for what I want/need in my home. In addition to this item, I bought Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Air Cleaner Model.I opened the Honeywell first and placed it in my bedroom. After reading the instructions, I put it on setting 4 and told it to oscillate in my bedroom. I typically sleep with a fan (sometimes a white noise machine if it is too cold), but this unit was audible even over those sound sources. It is audible everywhere in the room and doesn't adjust at all on its own. When we woke, I admit that we both felt better than we had the last month or so. The smell was better, you could see less dust in the sunlight, and the unit was still chugging along just fine.The next night, I tried the Winix. The Winix unit was significantly quieter. While it isn't quite as appealing visually, it seems to function much stronger. The Winix has a visual sensor to show what type of air quality it detects and adjusts the fan speed and technology used accordingly. At the lowest setting, the Winix uses 9W of power and is almost silent. It is impossible for me to hear from five feet or more away. The sleep mode on the Winix kept it quiet through the night as well - no sounds competing with my other audio sources.I'm happier with the Winix, but if you're looking for a specific use for an air cleaner, you can set the Honeywell to a strong setting, oscillate it, etc. It looks nicer as well. For constant use in your house, get the Winix. If you're looking to clean the aid during a party or other event, get the Honeywell.
